Boy, Matt Cain has been a real stud in the post season, hasn't he? He hasn't allowed an earned run yet! He also had streaks like this during the season.
In late May and early June, he made five brilliant starts in a row, allowing only two earned runs in 41 innings. That streak included a complete game one-hitter with no walks. (Game score 94)
Then, in his next five starts in late June and early July, he couldn't get anyone out. The Giants lost all five games, and Cain's ERA soared from 2.05 to 3.34.
The Rangers have really dug themselves a hole, because the Giants 3-4 starters are much stronger in theory, but their great hope rests upon the fact that Colby Lewis has been great since Sept 4th. He's 5-1 in that period, and has allowed only 11 earned runs in 49 innings - 2.02 ERA.
