Auburn did finish #1. They took over the #1 spot on the Harris poll. That move, coupled with their dominance in the computer systems, kept them on the top of the pack overall. Oregon finished a very close second in the combined ratings, and finished first in the coaches' poll.3-4-5 are TCU, Stanford, and Wisconsin. Wisconsin therefore gets the official tie-breaker in the Big Ten and will go to the Rose Bowl.
There was unanimous agreement on which were the top two teams, in the sense that all six of the computer schemes and both human polls placed Oregon and Auburn in those two slots. It was kind of interesting to see who the computers placed at #3. Three of the six computer systems pointed to undefeated TCU, but two identified Arkansas, and the other one landed on Oklahoma.
Here are the official bowl pairings, with analysis.
