It's an English tradition which commemorates WW2. Very few people remember that Churchill said "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and ..." when he was suddenly interrupted by a tinny rendition of "Turkey in the Straw" before he could get out the next word. Apparently Roosevelt had given him the tie without warning him that it would play a melody. He was planning to say "endurance" next, but was so shaken by the melody that he said "sweat" instead. This rest is history.Or should be.
