CEO of Burger King slammed after calling British women ugly, saying U.K. food is terrible

Here's the saddest part of the story: although every non-millionaire who visits the UK notices how bad the food is, the British people don't think it is true and invariably get all defensive about it. I guess they think their food is awesome. They haven't even gotten through Step One of the 12-step program.

"Michelin-starred English chef Marcus Wareing, who runs a restaurant at the posh Berkeley hotel in London, mused that the comments seemed pretty rich coming from the head of a fast food chain whose Whoppers and fries have been blamed for helping turn America into a nation of fatties."

Before I moved there I figured that English cuisine was just the usual cruel national stereotype, but I soon found that English food actually is worse than the comedians make it out to be. I was there for about three months before I finally figured out how to find something edible. (Indian restaurants.) I've lived or worked in about 50 different countries and would rate the U.K. 50th in food.

And a very weak 50th - nowhere near making a move into 49th. (And that from an Anglophile!)

Of course there are exceptions. Every country has good food for the rich. Sure, if you eat at the Savoy or the Berkeley, English food is just fine. I splurged and ate at the Savoy twice when I was working next door at Shell-Mex in 80s and the early 90s, and those were two of the most sumptuous feasts I've ever encountered.

But for the average Englishman of non-Indian descent, a flame-broiled Whopper would probably be the greatest thing they ever tasted.
