#11 seed Virginia Commonwealth (who?) makes the sweet 16 by scoring 94 and crushing Purdue

It's their first trip to the Sweet 16 in school history!

VCU, with 11 losses and a fourth place conference finish during the regular season, and a loss in the conference tournament, couldn't even get into the round of 64 without a play-in game. They have now won three consecutive games, and not on miraculous last minute buzzer beaters, but by completely dominating their opponents. They have won by 13, 18, and 18, the last of those against a #3 seed rated number thirteen in the nation.

During the regular season VCU won only one game by more than 18 points, and that was against lowly Wake Forest (1-17 in the ACC). Now they are piling up big margins against elite teams. Watching these guys play, you have to wonder how they could have lost games earlier in the season to teams like Georgia State, South Florida and Northeastern.

These kids can really score points in a hurry. They had only 25 points in the game's first 15 minutes, then kicked it into high gear and scored 69 in the next 25 minutes.

#11 Marquette also got into the Sweet Sixteen by beating Syracuse, so we'll have two #11s and #12 Richmond to follow next weekend.
