The general consensus was that the Tyler Perry movie would take the weekend, and that may still happen, but Rio narrowly won the Friday sweepstakes. The animated hold-over from last week had a remarkable day, as it actually improved by 4% from last Friday, which was its opening day!
It does seem that Tyler Perry's film will fall short of the $34 million forecast by the Weekend Warrior.
Water For Elephants is performing about as expected. It took in $7 million for third place. (Forecast: $16 m, 3rd place.)
The Disney nature documentary is doing well in more limited distribution. It finished fifth with $3 million, indicating that it will top its weekend estimate (6th, $6 million).
