Are you surprised by his monster numbers? You should not be. Over the last four years, he would have averaged .305 with 45 Hr and 125 RBI if he had played all games in a neutral park, with an OBP of .380 and a SLG of .590. Three of the four years would have produced slugging averages in the .570s. His actuals this year are .391/.574, the same thing he's always done, except no longer masked by San Diego's home park. I don't expect AG to hit .340, but I won't be surprised if he does, once he learns how to use Fenway to his advantage. He's a fairly similar hitter to another left-hander, Fred Lynn, who hit .347 lifetime at Fenway.
(Ted Williams, another famous lefty in Sox history, hit .361 at Fenway, but does not provide a suitable comparison because: (1) he was a completely different kind of hitter who almost never hit a ball to left field; (2) he was Ted Freakin' Williams.)
