Weekend Box Office Results for May 6-8, 2011There were no major surprises. Thor and Something Borrowed came in almost exactly as expected.
There were two minor surprises:
(1) Jumping the Broom outperformed expectations and took third place away from Something Borrowed. It recovered substantially from its weak initial reviews. Many critics praised it as a warm, funny comedy about the interaction between mismatched African-American families at a wedding. The final tally was 52% on the Tomatometer, including a thumb up from Roger Ebert.
(2)Fast Five dropped 62%, a much steeper descent than anticipated.
