They beat the As by the slo-pitch softball score of 22-9, although at one point Oakland had a six run lead! Russell Martin led the parade with a 5-for-5 day which included a double, two homers, and six RBI.
I was surprised to hear that no team had ever hit three salamis in a game before, because I know that many individuals have hit two in a game. I remember when Tony Cloninger, a pitcher, did it for the Braves in the summer after I finished high school. He's the only pitcher ever to do it, and he was the first National Leaguer at any position to pull it off, although the league had been in existence for some 90 years at the time. Cloninger was a pretty good hitter. In fact, he had another two-homer game that same summer. In the period from June 16th to August 15th, he went 19 for 49 (.388), with 5 HR and 22 RBI in 18 games and an OPS of 1.199.
Cloninger wasn't a bad pitcher, either. In the Braves' last year in Milwaukee, he won 24 games for a mediocre (86-76) team.
