Weekend Box Office Results for August 19-21, 2011

The three new movies disappointed.

I guess that statement is unfair to Spy Kids. Weekend Warrior said it would do about $13M, and that's what it did. In fact, it finished third overall and first among the new releases, in both cases better than expected.

But the other two new films - oh, mama! They took in about half of what was expected from them. Conan finished fourth with about $10 million, and Fright Night could do no better than sixth place, with a paltry $7 million, despite playing in 3,100 theaters. It didn't take in a helluva lot more than that romantic drama with Anne Hathaway, although the latter was in a mere 1700 theaters.
