Contagion easily won the weekend with $23M. No other film reached double figures.
Warrior finished a weak third with $5.6M.
But Warrior seemed like Avatar compared to the other new releases:
The surprise of the week was Kevin Hart's concert film, Laugh at My Pain, which took in two million in only 97 theaters. That was good enough to beat Bucky Larson, which was on 1500 screens.
- Bucky Larson finished 15th with about a million and a half
- Creature didn't make the top 25. The interesting question of the week would be "How did Creature get a nationwide release in 1500 theaters?" I don't know the answer, and I'd love to hear it. Whoever sold that deal - hire that guy!
I do know the results. It took in $220 per theater. At today's prices that's about 20 people, and a film screens about ten times in a weekend, so it pulled in an average of approximately two people per showing.
