Nothing dramatic is expected during the Labor Day weekend. This is the time of year for the studios to play Small Ball.
Apollo 18, the PG-13 horror/mockumentary film which is sort of a Blair Witch on the Moon, is expected to finish first with a gross of about $15 million in 3300 theaters. The race between this film and The Help is expected to be close, so The Help may hold on to first place once again if the new film falters.
Shark Night 3D (also PG-13) will be in 2800 theaters and is expected to pull in about $12 million, which would be good enough for third place.
The Debt, about Nazi hunters, is already playing. It is expected to gross a modest $6 million in 1800 theaters. Rated R for violence and language.
7 Days in Utopia, a G-rated drama about a failed professional golfer, will be in 550 theaters, and is not expected to perform well.
I don't know how many theaters A Good Old-Fashioned Orgy will be in, but it's not expected to reach the weekend's top ten. It is rated R for "pervasive strong sexual content and graphic nudity." (My kind of stuff!)
