Paranormal Activity 3 (R) - 87% positive reviews, 3000+ theaters.I suppose that score will decline, but it's not the usual early score bullshit based entirely on fanboys. Both Variety and Hollywood Reporter liked the film.
The Three-D Musketeers (PG-13) - 28% positive reviews, 3000+ theaters. This review says it all: "For the latest update of Alexandre Dumas's novel, Paul W.S. Anderson has added flying battleships and elaborate diamond heists."
Finally!
The Mighty Macs (G)- 40%, 1000 theaters.Hoosiers for chicks. What a shame to waste Carla Gugino in a G-rated film.
Johnny English Reborn (PG) - 43%, 1500 theaters. For me, Rowan Atkinson is the ultimate split personality. There are times when I find him hilarious. I freakin' love Blackadder. But there are other times when I would have voted him off the island. I'm lookin' at you, Mr. Bean.
The reviews of this film used words like "broad" and "tired." It's no surprise to hear that the film is "broad." The Beanster has never been known for subtlety, and he has never taken a pass on the obvious. The word "tired" is scarier, but I guess that doesn't matter if the target is 9-year-old kids. One reviewer said, "A worthy PG-rated comedy for kids." That's probably accurate. Nothing is tired if you haven't seen it before!
One thing the critics agree on: this sequel is better than the original. But that's about as obvious as saying that Sofia Coppola is a better director than actress. Ed Wood was better at directing than Sofia was at acting, and a night with Gallagher and Carrot Top would be better than the first Johnny English.
Not to mention subtler.
