Actually, it might even reach the second-highest total when the final numbers are in. The current #2 is Twilight: New Moon, with $72.7m. The latest one in the series is estimated at $72m for Friday.

The revenues for these Twilight films are extremely front-loaded. New Moon had a $72.7m day, but failed to reach $300m total. Eclipse had a $68m day, but stalled right at $300m.

In other news, Happy Feet 2 was a major disappointment. It was expected to gross approximately $40m this weekend, but will actually take in about half that amount.
