The Newt received approximately as many votes as Romney and Ron Paul added together.
Romney actually won the Columbia and Charleston areas, but Gingrich's support was overwhelming in the rest of the state, where he out-polled the Mitt approximately 2-1.
In the past, the winner of the South Carolina Republican primary has always won the party's nomination for president.
