New Movies In Theaters This Week- Rotten Tomatoes

New Movies In Theaters This Week - Rotten Tomatoes

The predicted box office leader this week is The Woman in Black, which pits Harry Potter against some ghosties in a PG-13 scarer. Three stars from Ebert; 67% positive reviews; 2900 theaters; predicted to finish in first place with a gross of about $16-17 million.

Second place should go to Chronicle, a PG-13 sci-fi/superpower film about three teens who suddenly develop uncanny powers. Roger Ebert loved it, awarding 3.5 stars and gushing: "Sometimes a movie arrives out of the blue that announces the arrival of considerable new talents." He wasn't the only one who liked it. 89% of the reviews were positive. 2800 theaters, about $14 million expected at the box office.

The other new film is Big Miracle, a PG family film about saving some whales, then eating them. OK, I made up the last part. They don't eat them. Actually, I haven't seen the film so I can't say that for sure, and the plot does include some native Alaskans who want to "harvest" the whales, but it's a good guess that they don't prevail. The box office hopes are modest for this one: 2100 theaters, $8 million gross. 65% positive reviews so far, but no review from Ebert.
