New Movies In Theaters This Week- Rotten Tomatoes

New Movies In Theaters This Week- Rotten Tomatoes
Tyler Perry's Whatever Tyler Perry is up to in Drag This Week (PG-13, 2000 theaters) has not been submitted to critics in advance. Who the hell would have time to review all of that guy's movies, anyway? Doesn't he make about 40 a year? I reckon Tyler's movies are review-proof, but people used to say that about Adam Sandler movies as well.

The other three new movies got good reviews:

Ted, the raunchy R-rated comedy from Seth MacFarlane (3000 theaters), has received 70% positive reviews. I reckon it must be pretty damned funny, because critics are often reluctant to praise lowbrow comedies. I will go to see it.

Magic Mike (2900+ theaters), the R-rated Soderbergh film based loosely on Channing Tatum's career as a male stripper, and starring Tatum himself, has been praised by 78% of the critics. It is rated R for, among other things, "brief graphic nudity." There is female nudity from Olivia Munn, Riley Keough and Mircea Monroe. Obviously, there is also male nudity from Tatum and others. (Hint: monstrous werewolf-hunk Joe Manganiello plays a character named Big Dick).

People Like Us (PG-13, 2000 theaters) is the only drama among the new films. (Well, technically it is billed as a dramedy.) Chris Pine plays a salesman who gains additional perspective when he becomes acquainted with additional members of his family after the death of his father.

Ebert gave 3.5 to Ted, 3.0 to Magic Mike and 2.5 to People Like Us.
