2012 Olympics: Final medal count standings for all countries after all events

2012 Olympics: Final medal count standings for all countries after all events
Below are the ten countries with the highest medal counts, and the comparisons to the previous summer Olympiad (2008 listed first in each pair):

USA 110-104, down 5%
China 100-87, down 13%
Russia 72-82, up 14%
Great Britain 47-65, up 38%
Germany 41-44, up 7%
Japan 25-38, up 52%
Australia 46-35, down 24%
France 40-34, down 15%
South Korea 31-28, down 10%
Italy 28-28, no change

The overall number of medals earned by those ten countries was within 1% of the 2008 number. It was obviously a tremendous Olympiad for Japan, which had the highest percentage increase, and for the host Brits, who had the largest increase in total medal count. Although the chart above does not immediately suggest it, 2012 was also an excellent year for the USA because the Yanks gained far more gold medals than they did in Beijing, 46 vs 36 (up 28%).
