It was one of the weakest periods I can recall. Only one film made double figures. The top six slots were occupied by holdovers.Premium Rush (CinemaScore: B) took in about six million.
The only good news of the week for investors came from 2016: Obama's America, which also took in about six million in its first week in national distro. That's not a gigantic number, but that six million was a pretty impressive six million, since it had the top average per theater by a very wide margin.
Major fail o' the week: Hit and Run, which took in about $4.6 million. That makes it a complete bomb because it was in 2870 theaters. To make matters worse, it is expected to fade quickly because CinemaScore audiences graded it a weak C+.
The Apparition, with a gross below $3 million, failed to reach the top ten, but it did manage to gross more than twice as much per theater as the dismal Hit and Run.
