The box office slump continues. We will not know which of the new films took the #1 spot until the visor-hat boys get down to counting the one dollar bills. Based on the estimates, they are at $13.0, $13.0, and $12.7.
The disappointment of the week was the fourth new film, Dredd, which reached 2500 theaters with 77% positive reviews, but took in next to nothing ($6.3m). That allowed it to enter the record book among the worst performers in 2500 theaters or more. It was not near the worst films on that list and was not even the worst 2012 film. That particular dishonor still belongs to Dax Shepherd's Hit and Run. (The all-time worst is The Rocker, with Rainn Wilson.)
Resident Evil collapsed in its second week, and joined the ranks of the largest declines of all time.
