When McDonald's was basically just a single walk-up window

When McDonald's was basically just a single walk-up window

  1. I lived in San Bernardino from 1950 until I graduated from high school in 1956. Went to that McDonald's 2-3 times a week. Hamburgers were 15 cents, fries a dime, milk shakes a quarter. They put up a sign after they had sold 50,000 or so, and updated it after about every 10,000 more. I ws disappointed when Ray Kroc consigned that shop to the memory hole, and pretended that the original McDonald's was the first one that he opened, in Des Plaines, Illinois. The original San Bernardino McDonald's building is still there on the same spot, but is no longer part of the McDonald's chain. It is now a museum of Route 66 memorabilia, and of course memorabilia of its first incarnation.
