"Scoop:
I’m a comedian going by the name HogWild and I wanted to tell you what’s happening with my new book as it’s being protested by uptight, so-called moralists.
Here’s the story...
Rising into Amazon.com’s Top 10 List of Joke Books on the strength of nearly 6,000 downloads and 17 Five-Star reviews in just two days, comedian-author HogWild thought he had found the audience for his new book, 'Baby, You're as Sweet as 3.14159265' (101 Funny Love Advice Answers, 20 Sexy Stories, & Lots of Jokes) but that was before the Prude Party Poopers got their hands on it.
Although the book is clearly targeted to a young, open-minded audience, a coalition of religious fanatics and self-righteous moralizers has taken it upon themselves to denounce the book -- even despite the author's disclaimer: 'WARNING: Content may not be suitable for people offended by naughty words, honest thoughts about love, and sexual thoughts of sextastic sex with sexy people.'
Their bitter public reviews on Amazon.com included statements such as:
'Vulgar, crude, I only read part of it until my disgust became more than I could stand...'
'Crass... Only get this book if you enjoy vulgar comedy and bed jokes.'
'The content was just vulgar, explicit, crude... this is obviously some people's cup of tea but...'
'Sorry excuse to use nasty language! Not very funny in my opinion!.. I am a 66 year old CHRISTIAN Vietnam Veteran, and averse to unnecessary bad language. A waste of my time!'
This is in stark contrast to the 5-star reviews:
'This book is an excellent, humor-filled, delightful read. Between his jokes, hilarious personal stories, and sometimes sarcastic advice, HogWild managed to bring a smile to my face on every page. The author doesn't take himself too seriously, often cracking jokes at his own expense, yet he still delivers his own profound advice along with a laugh.'
'In between the jokes there is actually useful advice. It is very much a case of reading between the lines. And the advice is aimed at both men and women alike. Ultimately, through a lot of jokes and one-liners, HogWild values a good, open and communicative relationship - with lots of sex!'
'His answers and notes always echo a tone of respect mixed in with the Fratire humor we have come to know and love from writers of the genre... As a feminist who also loves Fratire, it's well-done.'
Al Lowe, creator of the mega-hit (and hilarious) video game series Leisure Suit Larry, wrote about HogWild's book, '...made me spit-take! Very funny stuff, man... You are one funny dude. Thanks so much for the book; I really enjoyed reading it.'
The controversy surrounding the book continues with lots of back and forth in the comments on the Amazon page
Scoop's note:
I dunno. It seems to me that they are actually doing you a favor, although it is hard to imagine why they would care to do so. Their comments are not going to discourage anyone who is interested in ribald comedy, and their remarks are not going to scare off prudes because you've already done that with your own warning. Hell, if I wrote a book, I'd probably write a bunch of fake comments objecting to my tasteless sense of humor, thus hoping to attract the attention of the people looking for tasteless humor, but that's just me, I guess. At any rate, I'd say you should just kick back and have the last laugh.
