Remember what we said during the Olympics about how great life was in the modern UK? We lied. Don't come to Britain – it rains constantly, the trains are always late, the narrow streets are full of soccer hooligans, the traffic is awful, and the food is bad. Worst of all, there are no jobs for you.
Yeah, I know it sounds like a Monty Python sketch, but it's a real news story, although the idea is simply a tentative exercise in brainstorming and not a concrete proposal currently on the table. The idea is that the ads would run only in Romania and Bulgaria, and the point would be to discourage those particular Eastern Europeans from using the new freedom of their EU status to emigrate to the UK.
