There are two new movies in wide distribution this weekend:
42, a PG-13 historical pic about Jackie Robinson, Branch Rickey, and the integration of baseball after WW2, will be in about 2900 theaters. (75% positive reviews.)
Scary Movie 5, also rated PG-13, will reach about 3000 theaters. There is only one review, and it is harsh: "It is almost inconceivable to imagine how much effort a group of people would have to put into making a film as bad as Scary Movie 5. The latest installment in the series of lazy spoofs, this film offers virtually nothing to its audience, insulting their intelligence for an hour-and-a-half with perhaps the worst collection of blatantly uninspired and recycled gags ever put to into a film. An imminent sweep of this year's Razzies doesn't seem like ironic punishment enough for one of the worst films ever made."
The two films should take 1-2 at the box office this weekend, but neither will pull in big numbers. You can expect them to be somewhere between the mid-teens and the low twenties.
