New Movies In Theaters August 7th and 9th

New Movies In Theaters August 7th and 9th - Rotten Tomatoes:
Four new films will be in wide release this week:

Percy Jackson 2 (3000 theaters; PG; 33% positive reviews; opened Wednesday). "Percy Jackson, the son of Poseidon, continues his epic journey to fulfill his destiny, as he teams with his demigod friends to retrieve the Golden Fleece, which has the power to save their home and training ground."

We're the Millers (3200 theaters; R; 40% positive reviews; opened Wednesday). Sudeikis and Aniston form an ersatz family pretending to vacation in order to smuggle some pot in from Mexico. It's rated R for constant sexual references, drug references and "brief graphic nudity," which reportedly consists of a kid with giant swollen testicles.

Elysium (3200 theaters; 70% positive reviews; opens Friday; rated R, but no nudity.) Matt Damon and Jodie Foster star in this Sci-Fi flick which was directed by the same guy who did District 9. "In the year 2154, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the planet's crime and poverty, and they critically need the state-of-the-art medical care available on Elysium - but some in Elysium will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve their citizens' luxurious lifestyle." Sounds all too familiar, but it's the only film with good reviews this week, so ....

Planes (3200 theaters; PG; 26% positive reviews; opens Friday). It's an animated kiddie flick about a little plane who was afraid of heights. This is a spin-off from Cars.
Box office predictions:

Elysium: $30-35m (first)
Planes: $25-30M (second or third)
We're the Millers: $20-30M (second or third)
Percy Jackson 2: about $20M (fourth)

Opening this week in selected cities:

Lake Bell wrote, directed, and stars in In A World, a rom-com which is supposed to be pretty good. (83% positive reviews)

Amanda Seyfried in Lovelace, which is not supposed to be all that good. (47% positive reviews.)
