The reason is tricky to follow. The Dolphins are currently in 7th place, but only six teams make the playoffs. They have the same record as the Ravens, but the Ravens have the tie-breaker. So how are the Dolphins in control?
It works like this: assume the Dolphins win both and are 10-6. If the Ravens lose one or more, the Dolphins are ahead of them. If the Ravens win both, one of the wins will come against Cincinnati, which will therefore give the Ravens their Division crown. In that case, the Dolphins would be fighting for the final wild card slot with Cincinnati instead of the Ravens, and the Dolphins have the tie-breaker over Cincinnati!
