Transcendence (3455 theaters; PG-13; 17% positive reviews). Sci-fi thriller. Against all odds, Johnny Depp may actually have found a movie worse than The Lone Ranger.
A Haunted House 2 (2310 theaters; R; 0% positive reviews). Another horror spoof from the brothers Wayans.
Bears (1720 theaters; G; 87% positive reviews). Disney true-life adventure.
Heaven is for Real (2417 theaters; PG; 54% positive reviews; opened Wednesday). Another film targeting faith-based audiences. This one may be a winner - it scored an A+ CinemaScore rating.
Box office:
None of these films are likely to finish higher than third over the weekend. The top two spots should go to Captain America and Rio 2, with totals in the #21-$25M range.
Transcendence has the best chance to break into the gold or silver spot, as it should gross somewhere in the neighborhood of $20-22M, unless audiences realize how bad it (allegedly) is.
Given that it is Easter weekend and that it scored that A+ mentioned above, Heaven is for Real should corral the #4 spot with about $15M. A Haunted House will probably be closer to $10M, which should be good enough for fifth.
Bears is a niche offering which should gross mid single figures. I guess it could finish as high as 6th, or as low as 8th.
