RIP: Tuna (aka Chris Cochems)

RIP: Tuna (aka Chris Cochems)

A friend and collaborator of ours, Tuna wrote a column for the Fun House every day for about a decade, complete with collages. And I mean every day - 365 days a year. I don't know if he has done more Photoshop collages than anyone else in history, but he must be up there, with a grand total over 100,000. He also wrote the entire daily update for a few days back in 1999, when I was on vacation in New York. He was tireless, extremely competent, and a great guy.

He passed away last night from complications following a heart attack. The link above leads to his Facebook page, on which his wife posted the sad news.

  1. The old Tuna Tank. Im now having flashbacks to the late 90's. I even think I remember him filling in. It may even be back when you could sign up through Dudes & Organs to get the discount to the scoopy.net site. Damn, he will be missed.

  2. This is really sad news to me. I was a subscriber to the Fun House for a number of years, and I especially looked forward to his contributions. I saw a bright and insightful person beneath that pseudonym. I wish all of his loved ones peace. :(

  3. I miss his reviews... Agreeing or disagreeing with Scoopy, like a Siskel & Ebert-like internet-based tag team.

  4. I too remember fondly waiting for Tuna's latest contribution to scoopy.net. He was able to capture not just the frames of the movie but also the subject at hand. He will be missed.
