New Movies In Theaters May 30 - Rotten Tomatoes

A Million Ways to Die in the West is the latest comedy from Seth MacFarlane, creator of the movie Ted and the TV series Family Guy. Seth hopes to be the Mel Brooks of his generation. The critics are not receptive this time. (Rated R for raunchy jokes; 3100 theaters; 33% positive reviews)

Chef is a feel-good comedy directed by Jon Favreau. Official blurb: "Chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) suddenly quits his job at a prominent Los Angeles restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity for its controlling owner (Dustin Hoffman), he is left to figure out what's next. Finding himself in Miami, he teams up with his ex-wife (Sofia Vergara), his friend (John Leguizamo) and his son to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Chef Carl goes back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen -- and zest for life and love." The critics like this one. (Rated R; expanding to 600 theaters; 87% positive reviews)

Box office:

Maleficent is expected to take the #1 spot, with a total north of $40 million.

A Million Ways will probably slide into third (behind X-Men) with a total in the twenties.

Chef may take in two million, which would allow it to sneak into the top ten (barely).
