Stephen Gaskin, Hippie Who Founded an Enduring Commune, Dies at 79

He was one of the few hippie gurus who managed to translate 1960s counter-cultural values into good works and lasting communities which maintained good relationships with their non-hippie neighbors. Many talked the talk of peace and love and harmony with nature in the sixties, but Gaskin walked the walk, and was still walking on the same path when he passed away this week, on the commune he founded some 40 years ago.
