There are three new movies in wide distro this week. The critics didn't like any of them.
Sin City 2 (2800+ theaters, 45% positive reviews, rated R for everything that makes life worthwhile). I think you know what this is.
If I Stay (2900+ theaters, 37% positive reviews, PG-13). Adaptation of a female-oriented tweener book. "Mia Hall (Chloƫ Grace Moretz) thought the hardest decision she would ever face would be whether to pursue her musical dreams at Juilliard or follow a different path to be with the love of her life, Adam (Jamie Blackley). But what should have been a carefree family drive changes everything in an instant, and now her own life hangs in the balance. Caught between life and death for one revealing day, Mia has only one decision left, which will not only decide her future but her ultimate fate."
When the Game Stands Tall (2600+ theaters, 32% positive reviews, PG). "Inspired by a true story, WHEN THE GAME STANDS TALL tells the remarkable journey of legendary football coach Bob Ladouceur (Jim Caviezel), who took the De La Salle High School Spartans from obscurity to a 151-game winning streak that shattered all records for any American sport. When the streak is broken, and tragedy strikes the team, Coach Lad must teach his players - and the entire town - that it's not about how you fall, but how you get back up."
Box office:
The experts do not agree this week. Entertainment Weekly, for example, says that If I Stay is likely to win the weekend with about $20M, while Sin City 2 is likely to finish third with about $15M. The Weekend Warrior says just about the opposite: Sin City in first place with $19M, If I Stay way back in fourth with $13M. They agree that When the Game Stands Tall will be an also-ran with $7-8 million.
