New Movies In Theaters - August 27 and 29 - Rotten Tomatoes

There is one curiosity piece in arthouse release and two new films in wide release this week, all rated R!

The November Man
(Opened Wednesday; 2700+ theaters; 34% positive reviews; rated R for many reasons, including nudity.)

Here's the nudity report: breasts from a corpse, strippers in pasties, bum and side-boob from Eliza Taylor.

As Above, So Below

The Last of Robin Hood
(31% positive reviews; rated R without nudity; very few theaters)

This is Kevin Kline's performance as an over-the-hill Errol Flynn, centering on his relationship with Beverly Aadland. She and Flynn met in the Autumn of 1957 when she was working as an extra on Marjorie Morningstar. They were introduced by Gene Kelly, the star of that film. She turned 15 on September 17 of that year, so depending on the exact date of their first sexual encounter, she was either 14 or 15. Flynn was an old 48. I wrote extensively about the ridiculous film they made together in Cuba, an unforgettable cinema epic which also featured Fidel Castro and Che Guevara! There are several photos incorporated into the article - including one of Flynn and Castro.

At any rate, the Kline film must be awful because Kline, Susan Sarandon and Dakota Fanning provide some star power, and Kline seems perfect for the role, but it ain't comin' to a theater near you, unless perhaps you live in the NYU dorms.

Box office: with some luck, these two wide-release films will finish 3rd and 4th with totals in low double figures. (It's hard out there for an R-rated flick. I'm looking at you, Sin City.)

The 30th Anniversary re-release of Ghostbusters may take in $4-5 million in about 800 theaters, which may be enough to sneak into the top ten.
