New Movies In Theaters Oct 24th - Rotten Tomatoes

John Wick (2589 theaters; 86% positive reviews; rated R for strong and bloody violence throughout, language and brief drug use) is Keanu's big comeback film. He's a former hitman who comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him. That sounds like a huge cliche to me, but the execution must be good because the critics generally like it.

Ouija (2858 theaters; 13% positive reviews; PG-13) is the usual crappy Halloween movie relying on jump scares and "boo" moments. These are probably great fun if you smoke dope, but usually laughable if you don't.

St. Vincent (2282 theaters; 74% positive reviews; PG-13) is comedy legend Bill Murray being funny again, and everyone likes that, but once more the plot is a cliche. A single mother has no choice but to leave her child with an old curmudgeon. The kid and the crusty old fart form a bond. Sentiment ensues.

23 Blast (617 theaters; 39% positive reviews; PG-13) is a faith-based true story about a high school athlete overcoming immense obstacles to win the big game, presumably because the other team didn't have anyone who loved God as much.
Box Office:

The Horror Movie Cliche is supposed to dominate the weekend with a gross in the twenties, because of the combination of Halloween season and the expanding reach of legal marijuana.

The Hitman Cliche is expected to finish somewhere from second to fourth, probably grossing in the low to mid teens.

The Kid/Curmudgeon Cliche is a hard one to call. It should gross in high single figures, which should place it somewhere in the range of fifth through seventh.

The Holy Sports Movie Cliche should gross in the neighborhood of two million, thus losing the weekend unless it goes for the long bomb as time expires. That would be its "Hail Mary," so to speak.
