There are four films in nationwide release this week: three wide, one limited:
The Best of Me (2,936 theaters; PG-23; 7% positive reviews) is yet another Nicholas Sparks story brought to syrupy life for the young female audience. "A love story about as moving and genuine as a ballad crooned by a studio-manufactured boy band."Box office predictions:
The Book of Life (3,069 theaters; PG; 73% positive reviews) is an animated film which "tells the legend of Manolo, a conflicted hero and dreamer who sets off on an epic quest through magical, mythical and wondrous worlds in order to rescue his one true love and defend his village. "
Fury (3,173 theaters; rated R for violence and language; 77% positive reviews) features Brad Pitt and Shia LeBoeuf in "a well-acted, suitably raw depiction of the horrors of war."
Men, Women & Children (expanding to 608 theaters; rated R for strong sexual content including graphic dialogue throughout-some involving teens, and for language; 29% positive reviews) "follows the story of a group of high school teenagers and their parents as they attempt to navigate the many ways the internet has changed their relationships, their communication, their self-image, and their love lives." Well, isn't that special!
Fury is expected to take first place with a gross between $25 and $33 million.
The Best of Me and the Book of Life will compete with Gone Girl, Alexander, and Dracula for the positions between second and sixth. All of these films are expected to be in the teens or just below.
Men, Women & Children is expected to gross about a million bucks if all the cast members get their families to buy tickets.
