Unfortunately, the ban was not based on good cinematic taste, but on the fact that Danes shot a movie there and spent the following three months telling people that Manila was essentially an open sewer with a few buildings scattered here and there.

I enjoyed my time in the Philippines. The Filipinos are among the nicest, friendliest people in the world and their reputation as exceptionally hard and uncomplaining workers is known throughout the world. How they remain so optimistic and positive about life is a mystery to me, because Danes was not incorrect in her evaluation of Manila.
