"Before blocking a field goal with 1:05 remaining, Michigan State had a 0.4 percent chance to win against Baylor, according to ESPN's win probability model. Based on minimum win probability, it was the third-most unlikely bowl win in the last 10 seasons."
Crazy-ass, fun game. Baylor lost despite amassing an ungodly 603 yards of passing offense, including one TD pass reception by a 400-pound guy!
The blocked punt was the key play, but Baylor exhibited a known vulnerability. Everyone knew Baylor could move the ball, but there was always concern about their D. During the season, they allowed 41, 46 and 58 at various times, even though they won two of those games (including the game where they allowed 58). Ultimately D proved to be their downfall here, as they just couldn't slow Michigan State down enough to hold on to a 41-21 lead with 12 minutes to play.
