They have been married more than 82 years. They were married in November of 1932, when Herbert Hoover was the President of the US (the article incorrectly says Roosevelt).
The husband was born in 1907, when our 22nd and 24th President, Grover Cleveland, was still alive, although no longer President. The fact that the two men shared the earth briefly is astounding when you consider that Cleveland was born a quarter-century before the Civil War.

Cleveland was born in 1837, so would have been 70 when Mr. Veillard was born. There were undoubtedly some people alive in 1907 who were 100 or more years old, who would have been born when Thomas Jefferson was President.
ReplyDeleteMoral: the US is really a pretty young nation.
