Jordan Spieth has now achieved the lowest score ever shot for the first 36 at Augusta; he tied the record for the lowest 36 in any major! If successful, Spieth would be the second-youngest to win the Masters. Tiger was 21 years and 3 months old; Spieth is about half a year older. Nicklaus (23 years and 2 months) held that record from 1963 until 1997, when Tiger broke it. Seve and Byron Nelson also won before their 25th birthdays.
Dustin Johnson, currently the tour's longest driver (he is averaging a super-human 319 off the tees so far this year), became the first player ever to make three eagles in one round in the Masters.
Tiger Woods appears to be on the mend. I would not have bet money that he would now be tied with Rory and Bubba.
Phil Mickelson is in contention, if anyone can be said to be in contention with Spieth, who has been unearthly so far in amassing a 5-stroke lead.
Ben Crenshaw missed the cut, but closed out his 44th consecutive and final Masters with warm ovations. We will ignore his scores, which looked like some of mine.
