Everything went as predicted. The Longest Ride took third place with about $13M. Furious 7 repeated as champion with approximately $60M.
There will be five new movies in theaters Friday: three in wide release, the other two in about 500 theaters each. More on that later in the week.
Will Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 become the first film this year to earn the coveted 0% at Rotten Tomatoes? The first four reviews declared the film utterly deplorable:
1. What would a film be like if every single person involved made as little effort as humanly possible?
2. Hard to believe, I know, but this is a real movie that real people have unashamedly put their names to. Because a sweet paycheck trumps human dignity.
3. Blart is barely anything at all; a stereotype of a stereotype; a half-remembered punchline; a stomach with a moustache and wheels.
4. So mordantly witless that it takes on the quality of a bleak art-house tragedy.
Stay tuned.
