The sole metric is the comparison between critical judgment and popular judgment, but it's an interesting conversation starter.
Some of the conclusions are obviously loony:
I don't think anyone has ever called Groundhog Day pretentious, although it includes some occasional introspection. The meter says it is "93% pretentious."
On the other hand, Tarkowsky's Andrei Rublev, a legendary highbrow film from a Northern European master, is "40% mass market." Yeah, right.
