Roger Goodell: Tyrant or Idiot?

I dunno. Why can't he be both?

The Patriots and Brady are, against all odds, winning the psychological portion of the Ballghazi battle. Given the appeal, Goodell has only two choices:

He can let an independent arbitrator hear the case, in which case all of the penalties will certainly be revoked, Goodell will end up looking like a complete idiot for having spend umpteen jillion dollars on his kangaroo court, and he will incur a third consecutive loss in front of independent eyes.

Or he can review the case himself, thus making himself look like the prosecutor, jury, and presiding judge of the kangaroo court.

It's not a very pleasant corner that he has painted himself into. He really has to choose "tyrant" because his bosses can tolerate a profit-generating megalomaniac, but they aren't going to have any patience with the concept that they employ a complete buffoon with a losing record and a face full of egg. In football winning isn't everything; it's the only thing.
