Wait a second. How is that better? His critics said he sucked at his job because he lied and it was important for an anchorman to be truthful. He defended himself by saying he was sloppy at choosing his words.

But isn't careful selection of words kind of the whole essence of the anchorman position?

In essence, he said "Yes, I did really suck at my job, but not for the reason you think."

To put in in football terms: no forward progress.
