As expected, Baylor and Utah went up (to #2 and #4 respectively), while Michigan State tumbled to #7 after struggling to beat another mediocre team. Michigan State is ranked only #39 by Sagarin. He ranks them below Northwestern (!!), and also beneath Georgia Tech and Arkansas, which have four losses each.
Michigan made the most progress in the polls (six spots). Sagarin's system likes them even better, placing them in the #3 spot, headed for the post-season.
USC and Georgia dropped off the poll list, although Sagarin's computer ratings still place them #6 and #19, respectively.
Besides the low rating for Michigan State and the high one for USC, there's one other major oddity in the Sagarin ratings. He places Ohio State way down in the #14 slot, below Boise, for example.
Next week's top match-ups:
#7 Michigan State vs #12 Michigan. The opening line was Michigan by 3, but as of Sunday afternoon, Michigan is a 7 point favorite with the bookies, and it has gone up three times since I started typing these comments! (Sagarin's "Predictor" rating favors Michigan by 21.)
#8 Florida at #6 LSU. Now: LSU by 7 1/2. (Sagarin: pick 'em)
#10 Alabama at #9 Texas A&M. Now: Alabama by 3. (Sagarin: Alabama by 5)
USC at #14 Notre Dame. Now: ND by 3. (Sagarin: pick 'em)
#17 Iowa at #20 Northwestern. Now: Iowa by 2 1/2. (Sagarin: Northwestern by 2. Iowa has a slightly higher rating, but Northwestern has the home field edge.)
#18 UCLA at #15 Stanford. Now: Stanford by 5. (Sagarin: Stanford by 7)
