Playboy will drop the nudes, thus becoming Brigadoon without the songs

UPDATE: "Playboy will still feature women in provocative poses. But they will no longer be fully nude."

When I lived in NYC, the afternoon movie on channel 2 7 used to be shoe-horned into a 90 minute spot, which was only about 68 minutes when they added the commercials. The channel managed to get Brigadoon into 68 minutes by cutting the songs.

Playboy without the nudes is a lot like Brigadoon without the songs.

On the other hand, Playboy WITH the nudes hasn't been so hot either.

Reader comment:

"Not to nitpick, but in the interest of accuracy, if you are talking about "the 4:30 Movie" it was channel 7 (WABC), not channel 2 (WCBS). I was a big fan as a kid because they would have Planet of the Apes week (Planet of the Apes aired over 2 afternoons, "Beneath" and the rest were cut to fit the 90 minute run time) and Monster week (Godzilla, Gamera etc). I don't remember watching Brigadoon so I can't speak to the lack of songs, but 10-year-old me was quite disappointed Apes week never seemed to show the 5th movie, Battle for the Planet of the Apes."

Scoop's note:

I think the commenter is correct about the channel. My bad. And now that I think about it, Brigadoon wasn't all that good even with the songs.

  3. Meh... Playboy without nudity will make it just like Maxim and FHM and both of those magazines are cheaper.
