With some obviously unqualified candidates leading the pack, it had seemed that the GOP had very little chance to win the White House a year from now, but the Paris attacks have created a problem for Democrats, because they have refocused Americans on the European immigration crisis and how it might spread to North America. No matter what your personal thoughts are on the Syrian refugees, the fact is that the Republicans have a political winner in calling for a freeze or a ban on admitting them to the USA, and the Democrats seem to be out of touch with what most people feel is just common sense. With only 8% undecided, the remaining Americans want NO refugees or just the Christians by an overwhelming margin of 64-28.
The Washington Post's op-ed writers are concerned about the political damage liberals are doing to themselves, and even ultra-liberal sources like Mother Jones are warning liberals to back off.
As we get farther from the date of the Paris attacks, Americans will undoubtedly soften their positions, but that will only happen if there are no more attacks, and I have a feeling that the terrorists are not planning to lie low for a while. It'll be interesting to see if the Democrats stick to their guns on this issue, because you know the right-wing attack dogs will be fierce now that they know there's meat on that bone.

The Republicans seem to have been handed an issue they can win on
