SPOILERS!
That actually should be allowed by the IRS as a charitable deduction. Given that Hamill is not really recognizable from his youth, they could have hired a scale actor with the same general coloring and called him Luke Skywalker. In fact, they could probably have found an older adult who looks more like young Hamill than old Hamill actually does!
Hell, they could have gone that one better and held a Star Wars nerd-off contest for fans, allowing the winner to play Luke Skywalker. What a promo that would have been! (Not that the movie required any additional promotion.) This was completely practical because the job required no acting talent. According to the site, "Luke Skywalker is only in one full scene, and he doesn't say a single word. His scenes could have been filmed in a day. They probably weren't. But they could have been."
