HBO can't hurry George R.R. Martin, highlighting the risks of adapting popular material

The fans of the books are concerned that the HBO series will spoil the ending of the books.

I don't see it that way. George R.R. Martin is 67 and obese, possibly morbidly obese. He has taken an average of three years to write these books, and the last two, according to him, will encompass as many pages as the first four added together, so at double size they should take six years apiece at his previous pace. That seems to be borne out by the fact that he's been working on the latest one for more than four years now. It doesn't seem likely that he could finish the books before 2023. Being realistic, we should probably conclude that he is not going to finish the series at all.

Meanwhile HBO is getting ready to start season six, with two more in negotiation and presumably on the way . As I see it, the HBO show is just about the only way the saga ever will get the ending Martin foresees. I say let George tell his plotlines to the show's producers and let them go at it. That way we will get the conclusion he envisioned.
