What are his enemies so angry about? One of his classic moves is to appoint a $100,000 per year chief of staff to his wife while the state is cutting back on crucial social services because of the state's budget impasse. When informed that many people in the state have no bread to eat, his wife remarked, "Then let them eat cake!"

Outsiders probably don't realize that Illinois is pretty much like Russia. They realize that getting an honest, capable politician is impossible, so they just want to find somebody who won't fuck up and steal as much as usual.
