Weirdly enough, it appears that Tilda Swinton is playing an elderly, bald Tibetan man.

Oh, Tilda - lesson one about playing Asians: you never go full Brando. You probably should have gone for the Emma Stone kind of Asian.

I'm kidding, but just barely. The Ancient One is an elderly, bald Tibetan man in the comics, and she looks pretty much like the comic character, except she is presumably a middle-aged white woman, or given that it's Tilda Swinton, an extremely white woman. In other words, Dr Strange is to be educated in Asian mysticism by a white woman who expounds on the ancient mysteries of the Orient. Here is Marvel's explanation for the weird casting, a justification which is, to be kind, considerably more cuckoo than Cocoa Puffs.

Speaking of Emma Stone in Aloha, I just thought I'd mention in passing that in that movie the part of Dennis 'Bumpy' Kanahele was played by Dennis Bumpy Kanahele, but at the time his stage name was Dennis 'Bumpy' Kanahele. Good move getting rid of the quotation marks, Bumpster.
