Why does a distinguished northeastern University like Yale have a dining and residence hall named after John C Calhoun, a rigid pro-slavery ideologue? (Calhoun graduated from Yale, and became VP of the USA, but still ...)

And they have a stained glass window of slaves picking cotton? C'mon. Why not have the campus synagogue called Temple Beth Hitler?
